FLYING SPUR SPEED EDITION 12

OVERVIEW

The Flying Spur Speed Edition 12 is a limited edition of the Flying Spur Speed, created to mark the end of an era: that of Bentley’s legendary W12 engine.

With only 120 vehicles to be produced in total, this is one of the final opportunities to get behind the wheel of a new W12 Bentley. It is therefore likely to become highly collectible in years to come.

The car takes the incredible specification of the Flying Spur Speed and adds a series of special features, inside and out, that highlight the importance of the engine. They range from eye-catching badging and cabin embroidery to a metal visualisation of the engine’s firing sequence, displayed on the passenger side of the dashboard. In addition to the car, every customer will also receive a commemorative scale model of a W12 engine, cast from a real W12 engine block and supplied in a handcrafted presentation box.

The Flying Spur Speed 12 is part of a series that also includes the Continental GT Speed Edition 12, the Continental GTC Speed Edition 12 and the Bentayga Speed Edition 12.

DESIGN

The Flying Spur Speed Edition 12 adds to the specification of the Flying Spur Speed with a range of additions that celebrate the story of Bentley’s W12 engine.

Edition 12 Welcome Lamps are fitted to the underside of the front doors, while Edition 12 badges can be seen on the ‘D’ pillars. Silver brake callipers sit behind the 22” Speed wheels, each of which features a self-levelling wheel badge. Underneath the bonnet, there is an Edition 12 plaque bearing the inscription, ‘1 of 120’, fitted to the top of the engine.

Stepping over the Edition 12 treadplates, you will notice ombré stitching on the seats – allowing three thread colours to blend together. Each seat, meanwhile, features Edition 12 embroidery.

Grand Black veneers are used on the fascia, centre console and door panels, while the solid brass, organ stop air vent controls feature the number 12. As well as a Speed Edition 12 badge, the fascia also displays a polished metal overlay that shows the firing sequence of the engine’s cylinders.

PERFORMANCE

With such a legendary engine under the bonnet, it will come as no surprise that the Flying Spur Speed Edition 12 delivers truly groundbreaking performance.

The 6.0 litre W12 engine enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds). With a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h), it is – just like the Flying Spur Speed on which it is based – the fastest production four-door sedan in the world.

The car features active All-Wheel Drive, which means you get the benefits of driving a predominantly rear-wheel drive car most of the time. If it detects any loss of traction, however, it automatically redistributes some of the engine’s power to the front axle, effectively switching to all-wheel drive. The car also features all-wheel steering, enabling you to change lanes smoothly on the highway and turn in a tight circle when driving at very low speeds – in car parks or tight city streets, for example.

Bentley Dynamic Ride is a 48-volt electronic anti-roll system created by Bentley to keep the car level when cornering at speed, but crucially, without compromising on comfort when cruising in a straight line – vital in a luxury sedan.

TECHNOLOGY

The Flying Spur Speed Edition 12 includes the full range of technology that comes as standard in the Flying Spur Speed. That includes Apple CarPlay*, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless charging for mobile phones.

A wide range of driver assistance features is available, with the City Specification installed as standard, offering a Top View Camera, Traffic Sign Recognition, pedestrian warnings, auto-dimming mirrors and hands-free boot opening. The optional Touring Specification adds a Head-Up Display, a Night Vision Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist, among other systems.

For music, you can choose from the standard Bentley Signature Audio system, the 16-channel Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system or the 20-channel Naim for Bentley system, while passengers in the back will appreciate the Touchscreen Remote (TSR). This wireless tablet provides access to the heating and ventilation settings, seat adjustment, music controls and more – including journey data from the trip computer.

You can check on your car remotely using the My Bentley smartphone app. It can remind you where you parked or let you check the status of locks, windows and fuel levels. You can even set it to alert you if the alarm goes off, or if your car is moved without your consent.

PERSONALISATION

In addition to the features described above, you can choose from a range of options to enhance the specification of your car.

New and launching with Edition 12 cars, it is a grey-green that shimmers with copper undertones in the sunlight.

Inside the cabin, meanwhile, you can choose from five different hide colourways curated by the Bentley design team.

Further options include electrically deployed picnic tables, mood lighting and diamond knurling for all the metal switchgear.
